Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is a premier institute of science and technology established in 2008. IITH has been consistently ranked in the&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/reports/" rel="noopener noreferrer">top 10 institutes</a>&nbsp;in India for Engineering&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nirfindia.org/2021/EngineeringRanking.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">according to NIRF</a>&nbsp;making it one of the most coveted schools for science and technology in the country.

IITH offers&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/under-graduate/">undergraduate programs</a>&nbsp;in all the classical engineering disciplines, applied sciences, design, as well as several modern interdisciplinary areas. Students are given a flexibility to explore a broad set of areas, and potentially pursue a minor or double major in a discipline that is not their own. Students who wish to seek a deeper understanding of their own discipline are strongly encouraged to get involved in cutting-edge research with the help of a faculty to mentor them, and earn an Honors in their own field.

The very foundation of IIT Hyderabad is based on&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/research/">research and innovation</a>. The vibrant research culture is evident from the number of patents and publications that IITH produces consistently every year. IITH offers&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/programmes-offered/">graduate programs</a>&nbsp;at both a masters, and a doctoral level, in several diverse areas. There are separate programs for technology, design, science, and liberal arts. The&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/post-graduate/">MTech program</a>&nbsp;is offered in various modes and durations to cater to the ever-growing need of postgraduate level professionals in the country.

IITH encourages and supports&nbsp;<a href="https://iic-iith.netlify.app/index.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">innovation and entrepreneurship</a>&nbsp;at every stage. The minor program in entrepreneurship is open to all students of IITH, and many of the courses are offered by industrialists who are entrepreneurs themselves. There are various&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/research/centres-incubators/">innovation centers and incubators</a>&nbsp;that promote entrepreneurship and help mentor young innovators. IITH has been very successful in building tie-ups with leading academic institutions around the globe.

IITH enjoys a very special relationship with Japanese universities and industries that goes beyond academic and research collaborations. In fact, some of the iconic buildings in IITH campus will carry the signature of Japanese architecture.

With design and engineering education being conceived around the same time in post-independent India, design education lags behind in growth when compared to engineering education in India today. Research has shown that engineering education received support from government and industry in the initial years due to which it expanded exponentially. Design, however, still does not find a place in school education system and social system. This creates a gap in education for those who wish to pursue design as a profession. Therefore, using a sample size of 200 profiles of Indian design professionals from professional social networking Web sites, this study aims to investigate if there exists a mismatch of education to become a design professional in India. Mismatch of education and job: A study on design professionals in India

Design Innovation aims at harnessing human creativity for value creation. Towards this aim, Design Innovation attempts to address simultaneously the dimensions of human desirability, technological feasibility, and business viability. The practice of design lends a handle to address each of these intersecting dimensions, whereby it leads to design outcomes, which correspond to respective business elements that are aimed at overall value creation and entrepreneurship. Design combined with Innovation makes the notion of value explicit, as innovation is exclusively about finding new ways of value creation. Accordingly, with respect to the context of Design Innovation, the design practice ought to explicitly address and ensure creation of value. This is where identifying the design concerns, in support of Design Innovation, with its exclusive emphasis on value creation, becomes very important. Fashion brands offer iconic associations with the consumers about their personalities and approaches, which are beyond their basic need of product features. Counterfeit fashion brands are similar or confusingly similar copies of authentic fashion brands and these are typically available at a fraction of the original product price with lower quality. The purpose of this study was to measure Indian consumers’ ethical and other values based on various factors affecting the consumer-purchasing attitude of counterfeit fashion brands. The study determines important predictors of attitude towards counterfeits as fashion and brand consciousness and social impact. This study also supports the fact that attitude towards counterfeit fashion brands leads to ethical judgement and ideologies and is negatively influenced by consumer’s ethical consciousness. The findings of this study may benefit fashion brand marketers, producers and practitioners in their marketing communication to design their branding strategies in the Indian context. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2019.

Ethical ideologies in purchasing attitudes towards counterfeit fashion brands

Building construction is one of the fastest growing industries in India and it puts a huge burden on its limited natural resources. Fired clay bricks are one of the major constituent materials for the construction industry and it produces a huge amount of greenhouse gases. This research tries to highlight the use of alternative materials and how they can be modulated to suit the Indian construction industry. Bio-brick or agro-waste based brick is one such material that has the potential to be a sustainable and cost-effective solution. It acts as good heat and sound insulator and at the same time has overall negative carbon footprint. Additionally, it also acts as a deterrent to stubble burning, prevalent in northern India which causes severe air pollution. Due to its low density, it reduces dead load in high rise structures, thereby making RCC construction more economical. The study also highlights the use of Bio-brick in various areas of a structure. Another important objective of this research is to inspire and motivate architects, designers, researchers and builders to encourage and support the development of such sustainable and eco-sensitive material in construction industry. © 2019 Design Society. Bio-brick - Development of sustainable and cost effective building material

The fashion industry, which is one of the largest polluters of the world, increases the environmental concerns by leaving harmful impressions. Green fashion is a new approach to “fashion with a conscience” and it refers to a growing number of ethical fashion companies that attempt to attract young mainstream fashion consumers by offering fashionable products. While some researchers clearly identify the efforts of responsible consumers towards green fashion, some argue that fashion-orientated consumers who are sensitive towards environment do not actively participate towards supporting green fashion. This study aims to analyze the current awareness of green fashion among these young Indian consumers. An exploratory study with a limited sample of audience between age of 18 and 30 years is conducted where consumers’ awareness of green fashion is examined through online survey followed by an analysis of translation of this perception into purchase decision making. The study may motivate fashion brands to voluntarily adopt green activities and provide strategic guidelines for marketers and retailers about their sustainable retail practices. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

A study on consumer awareness towards green fashion in India

Stigma around consumable products and impact on local sustainability has led us to choke point. Paper examines household waste disposal into a small pond called Pukhri. After certain intervals, the pond would be dredged out to clean up the pond, which subsequently ended in agricultural fields. Today, other household waste items including material constituting laminated papers, plastics, inorganic waste etc., are being dumped into Pukhri. In order to establish a familiarity with situation, paper discusses imperative need for new order of waste management in village through data assessment and analysis and finding relations between actors, activities, and dependent phenomenon for a sustainable waste management system. It was found that levels of interconnections between various actors are facing blockage and impacts on domestic fowls, fish, and cattle were noticed. A critical study of choke point in sustainable recycling of household waste in an assamese village setting

Assam has peculiar geographical and climatic conditions; which has shaped its culture, practices and vernacular style. We see direct influences of such features on society which has remained self-sufficient for centuries and their reflections in ethnic styles in food habits, clothing, agriculture, fisheries, architecture, beliefs, recreation, etc. Objective of this research is to conduct studies on ethno-cultural influence mapping in evolution of vernacular architecture. Study was conducted to find existing conditions in various domains of public life, aspirations, occupational activities, supporting infrastructure, for system analysis and intervening areas which can maintain idea of sustainability around local building designs. Study resulted in identification of Acts, Actors and their Inter-relationships which are crucial for evolution of such typology and socio-cultural system. The ethno-cultural influences on “Assam type” building typology—a case of barduwa, Assam

Rattan and bamboo are important forest resources for the North Eastern Region (NER) of India. Naturally growing in abundance, they find use in a number of industries such as housing, construction, handicrafts, furniture and food industry. Of late, this industry has seen considerable growth outside the NER. But it has not been able to realize its full potential in NER due to significant lack in market orientation of the craftsmen who work from remote areas in NER and try to sell in urban markets. This paper looks into the urban markets, which holds the highest scope for revenue growth for this industry and investigates the gap in the customer preferences and current industry value proposition. The main gaps found are: lack of awareness, limited training focused only on techniques, lack of design awareness and sensitivity (ergonomics, attention to detail, finishing, presentation), lack of branding and marketing knowledge and limited outreach of self help groups (SHG) and clusters. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.
