Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is a premier institute of science and technology established in 2008. IITH has been consistently ranked in the&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/reports/" rel="noopener noreferrer">top 10 institutes</a>&nbsp;in India for Engineering&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nirfindia.org/2021/EngineeringRanking.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">according to NIRF</a>&nbsp;making it one of the most coveted schools for science and technology in the country.

IITH offers&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/under-graduate/">undergraduate programs</a>&nbsp;in all the classical engineering disciplines, applied sciences, design, as well as several modern interdisciplinary areas. Students are given a flexibility to explore a broad set of areas, and potentially pursue a minor or double major in a discipline that is not their own. The vibrant research culture is evident from the number of patents and publications that IITH produces consistently every year. IITH offers&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/programmes-offered/">graduate programs</a>&nbsp;at both a masters, and a doctoral level, in several diverse areas. There are separate programs for technology, design, science, and liberal arts. The&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/post-graduate/">MTech program</a>&nbsp;is offered in various modes and durations to cater to the ever-growing need of postgraduate level professionals in the country.

The minor program in entrepreneurship is open to all students of IITH, and many of the courses are offered by industrialists who are entrepreneurs themselves. There are various&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/research/centres-incubators/">innovation centers and incubators</a>&nbsp;that promote entrepreneurship and help mentor young innovators. IITH has been very successful in building tie-ups with leading academic institutions around the globe.

IITH enjoys a very special relationship with Japanese universities and industries that goes beyond academic and research collaborations. In fact, some of the iconic buildings in IITH campus will carry the signature of Japanese architecture.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the convergence analysis of public debt among Indian states using annual data from 1990‒1991 to 2014‒2015. Design/methodology/approach: The paper tests this hypothesis using club convergence technique propounded by Phillips and Sul (2007). Findings: The results reveal the existence of debt divergence for overall Indian states. States are formed into four clubs on the basis of their level of debt, and three clubs support the hypothesis of club convergence. Further, the total public debt decomposes into three compositions such as market loans, bank loans and loans and advances from the central government. The existence of convergence is found for market loans and bank loans; however, the presence of divergence is found in case of loans and advances for overall states. Practical implications: Since public debt plays an important role for fiscal health of the Indian states, findings of this study suggest to squeeze the fiscal consolidation further for Indian states whose debts as a percentage to gross state domestic product are on the higher side. Further, the examination of debt convergence helps to manage debt level among the states because heavy dependence on public debt could retard investment and economic growth. Originality/value: Whereas bulk of empirical studies emphasize on examining the linkage between public debt and economic growth, and issue on debt sustainability across Indian states, examination of convergence of debt and its compositions (markets borrowings, bank loans and loans and advances from the central government) among the Indian states is scanty. © 2019, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Does debt convergence hold in case of India?

We examine the effect of financial integration, measured based on both volume and equity, on output volatility using five-year non-overlapping annual average data windows for sixty countries over the 1971–2015 period. We construct aggregate- as well as sub-panels based on income and region. Financial integration reduces output volatility in aggregate and income panel, but not in all regions. Foreign direct investment (FDI) and foreign portfolio investment (FPI) reduces output volatility in developed countries, but only FDI reduces output volatility in developing countries. Financial regulatory architecture should aim at attracting FDI and macroeconomic and structural reforms to reap the benefits of FPI flows. © 2018 The Economic Society of Australia

Does Financial Integration Reduce Output Volatility? New Evidence from Cross-Country Data

Aim: This study aims to provide a medical anthropological perspective on how congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is perceived and constructed by parents and doctors in India. It aims to put forth the complexities that are associated with CAH and the various experiences that parents and doctors share as a result, while also exploring the influences that culture and medicine have on each other. Methods: An ethnographic approach was taken to understand CAH in this study, in which families and doctors of children with CAH were interviewed. Fieldwork was done for 2 months in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Results: A major finding of this study was the faith that parents had on biomedicine in general and doctors in particular. While parents continued to follow the instructions provided by the doctors, they also exercised their agency by questioning the decisions taken by the doctors. The research also revealed that there is constant worry and fear in parents about the future of their children due to the stigma attached to CAH. Conclusion: A constant discourse between medicine and culture can be noticed while analyzing the complexities associated with CAH. The study tries to show that medical decisions that doctors take in matters concerning CAH are culturally driven. Surgical corrections done in order to categorize the child into one of the two sexes is an example for the same. Similarly, various structures of family, marriage, and kinship have been medicalized owing to the strong influence medicine and culture have on each other. © 2019 Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism | Published by Wolters Kluwer - Medknow.

Socio-cultural dimensions of congenital adrenal hyperplasia: An ethnographic study from Chennai, South India

The aviation & aerospace sector in India has been expanding and growing through partnerships and new research facilities, thereby encouraging more players to invest and optimize the manufacturing process. Improving green and fuel-efficient technologies have contributed to a steady rise in fuelling the demand for aerospace engineers. The state of Telangana is fast emerging as a new aviation cluster with some of the country's best-qualified engineers and technicians. The potential of the aerospace industry is immense as it continuously requires skilled technicians and engineers. Considering the precision of skill required, it is imperative that rigorous training be imparted to all those who would be directly working on the components. With a plethora of job opportunities available in this industry, from engineering technicians, template makers, numeric control tool programmers, die makers, to technical writers and graphic artists, TASK has identified the gaps in the current learning landscape. It has taken the onus of working with technology partners and service providers across the aviation, aerospace and avionics value chain to train youth/professionals to be 'reskilled' to fit the aerospace and aviation sector. Beyond essentialism: Ecofeminism and the 'friction' between gender and ecology

Literature documents strong evidence of connections between early life health and later life health and educational outcomes while the outcomes are studied disjointedly. However, the associations between health and educational outcomes in later life warrant those to be studied simultaneously. This article addresses the above concerns by applying the multinomial logit model. Using Young Lives Survey data, results indicate that good health at the average age of 0.5 years increases the probability of good health and poor educational performance by at least 9 per cent and decreases the probability of poor health and good educational performance by at least 6.5 per cent.

The Joint Determination of Later Life Health and Educational Outcomes by Early Life Conditions: A Multinomial Logit Analysis

Research in the area of psychological resilience has gained much popularity since the birth of positive psychology movement in the late 1990s. This chapter attempts to summarize the progress of research conducted in the area. It begins by tracing the emergence of the concept with special focus on its development since the positive psychology movement. The concepts of vulnerability, risk and protective factors, as well as major theoretical frameworks proposed by resilience researchers in attempting to understand resilience, are discussed. Over the years, resilience researchers have faced several conceptual and methodological constraints in studying the phenomena. These issues have been highlighted in order to provide further clarification on the topic. An outline of recent researches in the area with an emphasis on the contributions made by Indian researchers is presented. Psychology of resilience

Using ethnographic findings, this article reflects on Indian women engaged in commercial surrogacy for foreign and Indian couples and expands on the existing ideas of paid and unpaid employment by conceptualizing transnational commercial surrogacy in India. The latter is undertaken through a mapping of the meanings surrogates and intended couples make of their participation in the transnational commercial surrogacy arrangement. Here, ideas about motherhood, domesticity and contractual labour come together to create an understanding of the unique role of surrogates in the arrangement. While emerging research has aimed to conceptualize the surrogate’s contribution through differing theoretical understandings of work and labour, my ethnographic findings suggest that surrogacy and its linkages with paid work are more complex than conveyed by its researched connections with care work and/or sex work. Invoking established theorizing of sexualized care work and reproductive choice, I point to the need for a deeper engagement with the idea of work-labour itself. Within this wider conceptualization are social categories that mediate between commerce and intimacy—including that of the paid domestic worker. By using frames used to study paid domestic work in India and South Asia, I portray surrogacy and the commercial surrogate through notions of domesticity, family and intimacy paying particular attention to its linkages with paid work. © 2018 SAGE Publications India Private Limited.

Conceptualizing Surrogacy as Work-Labour: Domestic Labour in Commercial Gestational Surrogacy in India

This paper investigates the spot electricity price discovery that exists among the five regions of Indian electricity market using hourly spot electricity price data from 1st January 2014 to 31st December 2015. Using Augmented Dickey-Fuller (1981) and Narayan and Popp (2010) unit root tests, we find that the spot electricity prices for both peak and off-peak hours across all the regions are stationary at level. Then by applying Granger causality test for a reduced VAR model at level, the results show that there hardly any causality exists between these electricity markets barring few regions. Though we did not find any causality between peak price and off-peak price for all individual region, but we formed two panels by using peak and off-peak price data of all five regions. Our results showed short-run and long-run panel Granger causality between peak price and off-peak price. The results of the study suggests that though India as a nation has all the regions inter-connected with single frequency of Power grid operation since 2008, however, these markets are not highly integrated in comparison to electricity markets of developed nations around the world. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd

Spot electricity price discovery in Indian electricity market

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess the dynamic impact of financial inclusion on economic growth for a large number of developed and developing countries. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses some panel data models such as country-fixed effect, random effect and time fixed effect regressions, panel cointegration, and panel causality tests to examine the linkage between financial inclusion and economic growth. Panel cointegration is being used to test the long run association between financial inclusion and economic growth, whereas panel causality test is used to find the direction of causality between financial inclusion and economic growth. The data on financial inclusion are taken from Sarma (2012) for the period 2004-2010. Findings: The empirical findings reveal that there is a positive and long run relationship between financial inclusion and economic growth across 31 countries in the world. Further, panel causality test shows a bi-directional causality between financial inclusion and economic growth Thus, the study confirms that financial inclusion is one of the main drivers of economic growth. Research limitations/implications: This study has two limitations. First, this study considers only banking institutions in the analysis. Second, the period tested for the long run relationship is not long enough. Practical implications: This study empirically measures the quantitative impact of financial inclusion policies pursued across the world. The study also suggests that policies emphasizing financial sector reforms in general and promoting financial inclusion in particular shall result in higher economic growth in the long run. Originality/value: This study attempts to assess the long run relationship between financial inclusion and economic growth with the help of a multidimensional index of financial inclusion. Therefore, this can be a valuable contribution to the banks and policymakers. © 2018, Emerald Publishing Limited.
