Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is a premier institute of science and technology established in 2008. Lattice structures result from biomimicry to create strong and lightweight materials. Triple Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) are complex geometry lattices which are highly challenging to design them using computer-aided drafting tools. Lattice_Karak resolves this problem by providing open-source software for generating TPMS. It has all the features for generating and modifying TPMS like density grading, cell size grading, hybridization and hierarchical unit cell. It also exports the generated TPMS into an STL file for further modeling and additive manufacturing. Lattice_Karak can generate scaffolds, heat sinks and porous structures, making it an excellent application for tissue engineering, lightweighting and heat exchanging. © 2022 The Author(s)

Augmented reality (AR) is emerging rapidly in the field of Heritage Interpretation due to its feasible availability and accessibility. Heritage tourism is more concerned about the visitor experience at Historical sites, and AR can enhance this experience. The enhancement of tourist experience and better interpretations comes from better documentation. The advent of technology calls for user-friendly and cost-effective tools for the documentation of heritage structures. Photogrammetry helps people recreate three-dimensional (3D) virtual models with fewer resources and lesser time and high-resolution textures. AR representation of buildings is highly efficient to showcase conjectural models where there is a lack of structural evidence. Instead of actual reconstruction, the use of AR preserves the authenticity and integrity of the structure. This paper focuses on creating a minimum file size 3D model with the digital data recorded from Kashi Vishweshwar Temple, Kalabgoor, Telangana, India. It is a High-Resolution Photogrammetry model which is integrated into Augmented Reality. Heritage Representation of Kashi Vishweshwar Temple at Kalabgoor, Telangana with Augmented Reality Application Using Photogrammetry

The status of urbanized areas has recently deteriorated as the need for people and goods transportation has grown. Bag Bazar Street is one of Kolkata's three main thoroughfares and is known as the grandmother road in the ekanto poribar (joint family), making it an ideal case study location. This paper aims to investigate the complete connectedness of Bag Bazar Street using urban morphology and space syntactic analysis. Syntactic space studies help investigate diverse historical sources to produce a cohesive account of urban spatial configuration by developing and evaluating hypotheses about urban mobility features and linkages across history. The research analyzes urban space and space syntax, which offers compelling opportunities as an exuberant proliferation of spaces. The city plan is critical in examining the historical link between metropolitan and urban life. When determining an area's level of connectivity, the aspect of spatial integrity must be taken into account. An axial map with a connection map frames essential findings in the study. Any plan for urban revitalization or smart city development requires a thorough understanding of the spatial characteristics and phases that define modern cities and the relationship between the two. Consequently, this study aims to confirm the degree of connectivity of Kolkata's Bag Bazar street as an input for future Smart city development. © 2022 IEEE.

A Tribute to Bundela Painting

The paper brings to focus, the role of the writing tools and writing medium on the evolution of the Telugu script from Brahmi script. It also correlates with the time period of the script transformation. The information on the Telugu script from the published works of prominent historians and linguists was studied. Then the data collected from various sources such as manuscripts, inscriptions and library archives were analyzed and presented. The evolution of the Telugu script reaches a pinnacle by the end of the twentieth century AD, thanks to the standardization process that is necessary for a print-oriented mass modern society. However, due to the creative demands of the advertising and book publishing industry, the artistic dimension of the script found expression. The paper lays special emphasis on the impact of ergonomics of the Ghantam (metallic stylus) and the tool interaction on the Tadipatra (processed palm-leaf writing surface) and its influence on the rectilinear and curvilinear letterforms. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Impact of Writing Tools in the Evolution of Telugu Script

Assam has a rich history of the Ahom dynasty for 600 years. With the first Ahom King Sukapha (A.D. 1228–1268) leadership, they set up their first capital in the Charaideu district of Assam. As for which, most of the Ahom architectures are observed in and nearby Sivasagar and Charaideu area of Assam. Most of the Ahom monuments are preserved under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Assam and Directorate of Archaeology, Guwahati, Assam. These monuments were constructed using mostly bricks, stones and mortar. Noticeably, the ornamentations in the brick monuments have managed to survive in fragments and sections; this is due to the effect of natural causes and the climatic condition of the environment. In some cases, the restoration process reduces the ancient aesthetic due to lack of understanding of the underlying design principles of ornamentation. Most historians and scholars have studied the iconography and archaeological findings of these monuments; the study on Ahom architectural ornamentation is significantly less. A pilot study was conducted to identify the surviving ornamentation in brick architecture monuments. Based on the identification, a categorization theory has been adopted to segregate the data. The categorization is based on the architectural sections of monuments that primarily includes motifs and pattern types. This paper identifies and compares the visual elements of ornamentation using formal analysis. It discusses the underlying design principles of ornamentation. The results and analysis of this paper provide a significant contribution to the conservation of traditional art and early architectural ornamentations. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Comparative Visual Analysis of Brick Architecture Ornamentations of the Ahom Monuments in Sivasagar, Assam, India

In India, the wedding industry is booming as a result of growing affluence. Indian brides are inclined towards spending an extravagant amount on exclusive, high-fashion, designer bridal wear. There is, however, almost no published research that examines the aesthetic and other preferences of bridal couples in India in respect of bridal wear, including how predisposed couples are to innovate in its design. 3D printing is a popular aid in visualizing prospective designs and in prototype testing, being gradually applied in the creation of haute couture and mass-produced fashion products. The paper reports research on consumers’ attitudes towards and use intention regarding 3D-printed bridal lehengas. Data was collected from Indian bridal wear consumers and decision-makers through semi-structured interviews. Perceptions and Dynamics Affecting Acceptance of 3D-Printed Bridal Lehenga in India

Inspiration is an important stage in conceptual design, wherein designers interact with different stimuli to generate creative ideas. Various cognitive processes like analogical reasoning have been described in design inspiration scenarios and have also been mapped to ontologies of cognitive psychology. However, the emotional processes in design inspiration are not clearly explained through ontological frameworks. In studies which report the significance of emotion in design inspiration, various aspects of emotion tend to get conflated. This conflation may lead to inappropriate choices of methods to measure emotion. To address this gap, this paper adopts the core affect model of emotion to offer a constructivist understanding of emotion in design inspiration contexts. The components of the core affect model are mapped to aspects of emotion reported in design inspiration scenarios which involve the use of stimuli. The paper then briefly outlines the potential of this ontological approach to study emotion in design inspiration. For this, a specific inspiration scenario is taken wherein a design student, while perceiving stimuli, thinks aloud to denote an emotion. It is then shown that this utterance could instantiate a detailed multipronged analysis in the framework of the core affect model, which delineates various constituent parts of emotion such as core affect, affective quality and so on. These constituents of emotion are broadly linked to different methodological frameworks with which they can be captured and analysed. Understanding Emotion in Design Inspiration Contexts Through the Core Affect Model

Art and design are increasingly crucial in Indian school curricula. Lack of specific instructional pedagogy, schools, follows a different methodology to teach art. Therefore, most students neither achieve a basic understanding of creating art nor develop design or skill. Although the article art education in India 2010 reported that it is an essential tool for equipping students to stimulate cognitive development and encourage innovative and creative thinking. Furthermore, it also emphasizes using electronic media aids to teach this subject. Nevertheless, most schools are giving less importance to teaching art and do not take the initiative to develop better pedagogy. However, education pedagogy in recent decades has struggled to develop new methods and tools for better learning. Virtual reality (VR) is one of the meaningful solutions to technology-driven pedagogy. It allows us to visualize abstract content, provide information with clarity, and actively participate in the learning environment. In this study, the researcher introduced a teaching–learning design concept using virtual reality technology so that the sixth standard student could learn art and design in the VR environment. The content is developed on elements of art, and the topics have been chosen from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) art education program. The result of this study shows the procedure and criteria for content design with the aid of virtual reality for the study of art and design. This chapter presents contemporary design practices in the apparel industry, which are in line with the concept of the circular economy. It begins with an explanation of the distinctive features and ecological challenges of the apparel industry. The chapter then explains the association between sustainability and the apparel industry by exploring various domains, including design, production, and consumption practices. A comprehensive discussion of ethical and consumption-based concerns is also included in determining their connection with the main elements of the circular economy in the apparel industry.
