Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is a premier institute of science and technology established in 2008. IITH has been consistently ranked in the&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/reports/" rel="noopener noreferrer">top 10 institutes</a>&nbsp;in India for Engineering&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nirfindia.org/2021/EngineeringRanking.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">according to NIRF</a>&nbsp;making it one of the most coveted schools for science and technology in the country.

IITH offers&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/under-graduate/">undergraduate programs</a>&nbsp;in all the classical engineering disciplines, applied sciences, design, as well as several modern interdisciplinary areas. Students are given a flexibility to explore a broad set of areas, and potentially pursue a minor or double major in a discipline that is not their own. Students who wish to seek a deeper understanding of their own discipline are strongly encouraged to get involved in cutting-edge research with the help of a faculty to mentor them, and earn an Honors in their own field.

The vibrant research culture is evident from the number of patents and publications that IITH produces consistently every year. IITH offers&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/programmes-offered/">graduate programs</a>&nbsp;at both a masters, and a doctoral level, in several diverse areas. There are separate programs for technology, design, science, and liberal arts. The&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/academics/post-graduate/">MTech program</a>&nbsp;is offered in various modes and durations to cater to the ever-growing need of postgraduate level professionals in the country.

IITH encourages and supports&nbsp;<a href="https://iic-iith.netlify.app/index.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">innovation and entrepreneurship</a>&nbsp;at every stage. The minor program in entrepreneurship is open to all students of IITH, and many of the courses are offered by industrialists who are entrepreneurs themselves. There are various&nbsp;<a href="https://iith.ac.in/research/centres-incubators/">innovation centers and incubators</a>&nbsp;that promote entrepreneurship and help mentor young innovators. IITH has been very successful in building tie-ups with leading academic institutions around the globe.

IITH enjoys a very special relationship with Japanese universities and industries that goes beyond academic and research collaborations. In fact, some of the iconic buildings in IITH campus will carry the signature of Japanese architecture.

This paper explores the link between rules of grammar, grammar formalisms and the architecture of the language faculty. In doing so, it provides a flexible meta-level theory of the language faculty through the postulation of general axioms that govern the interaction of different components of grammar. The idea is simply that such an abstract formulation allows us to view the structure of the language faculty independently of specific theoretical frameworks/formalisms. It turns out that the system of rules, axioms and constraints of grammar cannot be explicitly represented in a general architecture of the language faculty -which circumvents the ontological mismatch of mental representations and formal/ axiomatic properties of language. Rather, the system of rules, axioms, constraints of grammar is intentionally projected by humans, and this projection realizes/instantiates what Dascal (1992) calls 'psychopragmatics'. Relevant implications for linguistic theory, learnability and (computational) models of language processing are also explored. © John Benjamins Publishing Company.

How does the faculty of language relate to rules, axioms, and constraints?

The manner in which assisted reproductive technologies are deliberately enmeshed with human subjects in public discourse complicates its regulation. The public debate surrounding the ART Draft Bill's provisions to regulate transnational commercial surrogacy is an example of how issues relating to this burgeoning billion dollar industry are represented in the public and administrative spheres.

Transnational surrogacy: The 'public' selection of selective discourse

The objective of the study is to understand the role of task interdependence and procedural justice in influencing climate in software development teams. Data was collected from 192 software professionals from 33 software development teams. Team climate was measured using Team Climate Inventory by Anderson and West. Procedural justice was measured using a scale developed by Colquitt. Pearce and Gregersen's scale was used to measure task interdependence within the team. Teams were taken as the unit of analysis. Regression was used to study the moderating and main effects.Results showed a postive impact of task interdependence on all the sub dimensions of team climate. Procedural justice had a positive effect on two sub-dimensions of team climate (participatory safety and support for innovation). Perception of procedural justice also helped to improve the positive effect of task interdependence on the members' perception of support for innovation within their team. © Asian Academy of Management and Penerbit Universiti Sains Malaysia, 2013.

Climate in software development teams: Role of task interdependence and procedural justice

This paper puts forth a Neo-Kaleckian open economy model of two countries in order to investigate adjustment of US-China external imbalances. First, a stylized fixed mark-up model is presented, and discussed based on graphical analysis. Second, we present estimates of bilateral income and price elasticities of imports. Third, we employ the model for simulation analysis. Specifically, we randomly distribute expenditure change across government, investment and imports and calculate the exchange rate change necessary to lead to an equal change in the bilateral external imbalance. Doing so repeatedly allows us to estimate probability distributions of endogenous variable changes. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

Rebalancing through expenditure and price changes

This paper aims at pointing out a range of differences between logical form as used in logic and logical form (LF) as used in the minimalist architecture of language. The differences will be shown from different angles based on the ways in which they differ in form and represent some natural language phenomena. The implications as following on from such differences will be then linked to the issue of whether semantic realization in mind/brain is computational. It will be shown that the differences between logical form as used in logic and logical form (LF) as used in the minimalist architecture of language will help us latch on to the realization that there is no determinate way in which semantics can be computational or computationally realized. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

A hundred years ago, pre-puberty marriage for girls was the norm among South Indian Tamil Brahmans, and Brahman girls received little or no education. By the 1940s, child marriage had largely ended and girls' education was improving gradually. Today, girls' educational standards more or less match that of boys', and many Brahman women are also employed outside the home. In relation to marriage and education in particular, the position of women has greatly improved, which is regarded by Tamil Brahmans themselves as a sign of their modern, educated, professional, middle-class status, whereas extreme gender inequality formerly indicated their traditional, high-caste status. This paper examines how female marriage, education, and employment are interrelated and how they have changed among Tamil Brahmans, particularly in the Eighteen-Village Vattima subcaste, which continued child marriage until the 1970s. Among Tamil Brahmans, as both women and men recognize, a real reduction in gender inequality has occurred. Moreover, Brahman men have more readily ceded status to Brahman women than Brahmans together have to non-Brahmans, so that there is a striking contrast today between persisting ideas of caste superiority and diminishing gender inequality. Marriage, education, and employment among Tamil Brahman Women in South India, 1891-2010

In this paper a connection between inthentionality, inthensionality, language and emotion will be drawn up terough a demonstration of an intimathe relationship between the inthentionality of emotion and inthensionality in language. What will be shown is that the inthentionality of emotion can ultimathely be traced to the inthensionality of emotional conthexts. For this purpose, emotive predicathes will be cathegorized in therms of their inthensional behavior and regularities. They will then be brought forward for an explication of why and how far the inthentionality of emotion is unique. The insights derived from the relevant analyses will then be employed for the implications and ramifications that might be terown upon the fabric of emotion and language within the space of cognition. © John Benjamins Publishing Company.

How the inthentionality of emotion can be traced to the inthensionality of emotion: Inthensionality in emotive predicathes

In this essay, I examine 'Education Abroad'- the large-scale migration of engineering students from India to the USA for seeking graduate education. I argue that Education Abroad in contemporary India is articulated at the intersection of multiple factors at different scales. These include imaginations of successful careers and lifestyles as well as frustrations with state-sponsored higher education in India - factors which, in turn, are themselves located within particular histories of (post)colonialism, developmentalism, and more recently, neoliberalism. Drawing on historical analysis and ethnographic research conducted among engineering students in Mumbai, India, and various parts of the USA, I trace ways in which Indian engineers make sense of and navigate through the intersections of these various historical and contemporary currents and the particular shape of Education Abroad that emerges as a result. Moreover, I suggest, in pursuing Education Abroad, these engineers inadvertently undermine the very systems of higher education of which they are legacy beneficiaries. © 2013 Taylor & Francis.

Education Abroad: engineering, privatization, and the new middle class in neoliberalizing India

Survival, a signature theme in Margaret Atwood's works, is once again celebrated in The Handmaid's Tale (1985) wherein the narrator protagonist transforms herself into a chronicler and using her narrative sustains herself in a fictionalized dystopic world-Gilead. The present paper claims that the protagonist, Offred, in negotiating her agency as a chronicler in a totalitarian phallogocentric world, adopts the role of a 'hysteric'. This argument is premised on Juliet Mitchell's psychoanalytic concept of the hysteric which claims that for a woman to produce her narrative in a phallogocentric world, she has to be a hysteric. Furthering this thesis, Offred's past and present in the novel are compared to the Lacanian Imaginary and the Symbolic, thereby demonstrating that the narrator protagonist's life is never free from the dictates of phallogocentric law. In order to survive such oppression, Offred, in The Handmaid's Tale, becomes a hysteric chronicler whose narrative simultaneously becomes the symbol of her resistance and her means to survive. © 2013 IUP.
