This paper proposes a new Fault Location Algorithm(FLA), for three terminal transmission lines, which is one of the most widely used multi-terminal configuration. The proposed FLA uses synchronized measurements available at all three ends. In this algorithm, the fault section has been identified at first, later the fault location of the corresponding section has been estimated. The simulation for various faults were carried out on a 400kV power system using PSCAD software and the proposed FLA was implemented using MATLAB software. The fault location doesn't need any line parameters which would vary depending upon weather conditions. The proposed algorithm estimates the fault location very precisely for various asymmetrical faults with a percentage error of less than 1%, and for symmetrical faults (with low fault resistance), with a percentage error of less than 2%. © 2019 IEEE.
