Abstract
In this numerical study, the effect of post-earthquake fire on the behaviour of concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns is investigated by using ABAQUS, a finite element-based analysis tool. The steps involved in numerical modelling were cyclic, heat transfer and structural analysis. In the first step, cyclic analysis was conducted to simulate the seismic behaviour, and then, output from the cyclic analysis in terms of residual deformations was used as the input for the sequentially coupled nonlinear thermal stress analysis. First, the simulated numerical model was validated based on the literature available for full-scale testing of CFST columns for cases of cyclic as well as thermal loading. The validated finite element model was then used to investigate the behaviour of CFST column under post-earthquake fire scenarios. The results showed that column with residual deformation showed lesser fire resistance than the undamaged column. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
