Abstract
In the present study, wrought processed Al0.2CoCrFeNiMo0.5 high entropy alloy (HEA) was welded using gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) to determine its potential as a structural material. The microstructural changes during welding were analyzed and correlated with the mechanical properties. The welded HEA specimen has shown similar microstructural constituents, a typical FCC matrix with BCT secondary phase (sigma). The microstructure changed from irregular and heterogeneous secondary phase in base metal (BM), to eutectic broken lamellae of sigma phase in FCC matrix at heat affected zone (HAZ) and as-cast structure (dendritic and interdendritic regions) of sigma phase in FCC matrix at fusion zone (FZ). Upon tensile testing, the welded specimens fractured in the FZ with comparable tensile properties. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.
