An intense blue-emitting phosphor KBaPO4:Eu2+ was synthesized by a solid-state reaction method. Under 147 nm, 254 nm, and 365 nm excitation, it showed an intense blue emission peak at 420 nm, corresponding to a relative intensity of 60 %, 122 %, and 108 % of a commercial BaMgAl 10O17:Eu2+ phosphor (Nichia). And its color coordinate was (0.1606, 0.0271) which is of high color purity in blue region. This is a very promising candidate phosphor for a plasma display panels, cold cathode fluorescent lamps, and phosphor-converted white light emitting diodes based on near ultraviolet LED.
