Abstract
This paper presents a Hybrid Power Converter (HPC) control strategy for a DC Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The proposed adaptive control for the HPC regulates the DC link voltage and extracts maximum power from Photo Voltaic (PV) panels by controlling the PV terminal voltage. Further, the control strategy monitors bi-directional power flow between the DC link and the grid. A master battery interfaced through a half bridge bi-directional DC-DC converter supports power to the HPC based on operating conditions, and the master battery can also be charged. In the proposed control strategy, the master battery regulates the DC link voltage. By measuring power availability from the PV, the master battery and the EV load power demand, the HPC control strategy supplies excess power to the grid in case of excess power availability, or extracts power from the grid in case of power deficiency. Performance of the HPC under various conditions have been simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and Investigated in this paper. © 2022 IEEE.
